Experience: Chill Vibes and Community Flavor

Walking in felt like catching up with an old friend. I joined a mid‑afternoon trivia night mixed with low-key chatter and craft brews. Owners John and Lisa Martin greeted me, sharing their passion: creating a third place—a community hub beyond work or home . I sampled their Philly cheese‑steak and Cuban sandwiches, both crafted with care. The Philly was tender and flavorful, while the Cuban had that perfect balance of pulled pork, ham, pickles, and melty cheese. Paired with an ice‑cold session IPA, it hit the spot.

Expertise: Behind the Menu and Quality Sourcing

John and Lisa’s culinary expertise shines through menu variety. They take local ingredients and seasonal produce seriously. Dinner menus rotate—think fresh fish and poultry with inventive sides like house‑made onion rings or tangy coleslaw . The restaurant embraces vegan and vegetarian options too, showing thoughtful inclusivity for diverse diets . From research published in The Vicksburg Post, they started in 2009, adapting through the pandemic with take‑out, Zoom wine tastings, and slow‑cooker events to keep food education and community engagement going .

Personal experience matched online feedback: service is warm, environment relaxed. My only note was a slight wait during peak hours—but that’s typical at popular spots. Building needs some curb appeal, back porch was nice but not enough shade. Since all they offer is outdoor seating they really need umbrellas. My husband had shrimp and grits. He ordered it with sausage but it was missing and the waitress didn't return until we were done eating. I had a Cajun eggs Benedict... it was very good but I would have rather taken my husbands dish. The price with tip was around $35 and that included drinks so not bad!

Just in town for the day and was absolutely delighted at and in this cafe. The owner(?) was kind and helpful and really hospitable, giving us recommendations for local spots. And the food! We had brunch that was gone in mere minutes. Absolutely recommend.

I can not give this place enough stars. From the amazing welcome (by patrons and owners), to my kids actually eating "real" food off of our plates, this was such a great find. This unassuming restaurant sits nestled amongst homes and businesses not far from the river, and looks like it may have been someone's house at one time. There's nothing fancy here (except the ridiculously fancy/awesome food) and you can come as you are for lunch or dinner. Their lunch menu includes a variety of sandwiches and such and their dinner menu (served after 5) boasts pizzas, burgers, and po-boys. You can order from the lunch or dinner side after 5pm. We started with the souther board starter. It had pimento cheese, sausage, jalapeño jelly, and house made pickles. Yum!!! For dinner, I had the chicken pesto panini and the hubby had a fajita cheesesteak. Mine came with their greek pasta salad and his ha a house side salad. The kids ordered from their color plate menu. The yellow plate was PB&J and the blue was grilled cheese. Their both came with fruit and a juice box. Their plates were clean when we finished. They also have a nice selection of tap beers as well as bottles. There is also a small bar of liquor. Make sure you say hello to Lisa, the owner, and her husband. You won't find nicer folks anywhere.

Always great local beer and excellent food. Do NOT miss Shelly's (hope I'm spelling it right) desserts! I had the shrimp and grits with collards on the side and it was all fabulous then the carrot cake was a perfect finish. I couldn't decide between that and the chocolate chess square, so I had that for breakfast this morning and wow... I was just passing through from Memphis and felt like family with not only the people running the place, but also with all the customers as well. Thanks again, guys for a fun evening! I'll definitely be back.

I'm surprised to be the first to rate Martins. I'd actually give it 4.5 stars if I knew how. This local restaraunt has soup, salad, and sandwiches on the menu. They bake their bread and make their own soups. The sandwiches are all their own recipes. The minuses would be the service is not fast and I am not sure if they have options on the bread selection. The sandwiches I generally get have Focaccia though they have at least one other kind. I find the quality of the food to be very good. They also have desserts which tend to be much better than chain restaraunts, and reasonably priced. They are open several nights during the week though not on Saturdays. They have a selection of beers on tap including stout, porter, and local brews.
